Pulpectomy / Pulpotomy

It is a dental procedure used to treat a seriously damaged or diseased tooth by removing the dental nerve. It is done to relieve the pain and suffering caused by decay and to maintain the tooth without having to extract it.

What Do You Need Tooth Pulpectomy?

When a patient has a significant cavity in their tooth that requires treatment, they require tooth pulpectomy. Once the pulp is exposed, it could be painful and infection-causing. A pulpectomy is the removal of the pulp from the tooth. It is performed when there is persistent pulp damage. The presenting symptoms are generally dental pain that occurs without any stimulation of the teeth.

Pulpectomy Procedure

The pulpectomy procedure involves the removal of the pulp from the teeth. This procedure is carried out to treat a tooth that has become infected or has severe decay. A pulpectomy treatment is often performed in two to three sessions lasting 20-30 minutes each. The tooth canals will be filled with a resorbable paste and firmly filled from the top at the completion of the treatment.

What to Expect Following a Pulpectomy?

There can be some swelling and soreness in the areas around the tooth after a dental pulpectomy. Typically, the tooth will be back to normal without any discomfort or swelling within 3 to 5 days.
