Post and Core
At Dr. Changule’s Face Clinic & Research Center, we recognize that after a root canal treatment, a patient’s first objective is to ensure that their tooth is properly strengthened and fortified with the finest protection against further breakage.
Since root canal-treated teeth are weaker than non-treated teeth, your dentist would propose following that procedure with a dental post and core treatment and restoration with a dental crown to strengthen and extend the life of your natural tooth.
A post and core treatment equip your tooth to sustain the finished crown. It includes your dentist safely inserting a small ‘post’ (a safe plastic rod) into the root canal system of your tooth, prepared to support the ‘core’ – a replacement for your damaged natural tooth structure – with a ceramic material either built up around the post for minor restorations, or a full cap created by our dental specialists to fix severe damage or decay to the tooth structure. Once securely in place, the post and core will form a foundation for a dental crown to fit comfortably over your tooth, preserving the treated root from infection or additional decay and restoring the natural shape, color, and beauty of your smile.
