When serious gum disease (periodontitis) has damaged the bones that sustain your teeth, flap surgery is necessary. If antibiotics or root planning and scaling cannot effectively treat gum disease (periodontitis), surgery might be required. Flap surgery cleans the tooth’s roots and soft tissues while also regenerating the damaged bone. A periodontist or maxillofacial surgeon performs the procedure.
Surgery Procedure
The procedure is carried out under local anesthetic, which is solely applied to the area to be treated. Following that, the periodontist will pull the dental portions aside to clean the dental root and, if required, clearly rebuild the tooth. The dental flap will then be repositioned and gauze will be used for the following few hours.
During the surgery, the bone might be flattened and regenerated so that dental plaque does not accumulate between the teeth. Your specialist might also need to put an alternate graft of synthetic material to assist the new growth. After a few months, the alternate veneer can be removed.
